The Importance of Being Earnest

BY OSCAR WILDE

DIRECTED BY ANGELA YEATES

John Worthing is in love with the Hon. Gwendolen Fairfax, but she is convinced she can only love a man named "Ernest". John's best friend (and Gwendolyn's cousin) Algernon Moncrieff is in love with young Cecily Cardew (John's niece), but she is convinced she can only love a man named "Ernest".

We see what happens when these four go toe-to-toe with Gwendolen's mother Lady Bracknell (a frighteningly proper old battleaxe), Cecily's governess, and a local minister.

Set in England during the late Victorian era, "The Importance of Being Earnest" is arguably Oscar Wilde's best known work. A trivial comedy for serious people, Wilde's play is still considered one of English theatre's finest comedies even 100 years later.

Note: This play is replacing KWLT's production of "Romeo and Juliet".
