To celebrate our 75th Season, Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre is presenting a collection of "New Classics". Margaret Atwood's The Penelopiad offers a new telling of Homer's Odyssey -- Penelope leads an all-female cast as they reminisce on their lives in ancient Greece, Hades, and the world thereafter; this is a Canadian Amateur Premiere. Sleeping Cinder White, a fairytale mash-up, is this year's family Pantomime where Cindy must save the world from her evil step-mother; this is a World Premier. Marry Shelley's classic story of Frankenstein comes to the stage as a thrilling psychological piece re-set in late Victorian times. Lastly, this season features the return of a beloved KWLT classic, the Popcorn Plays in its sixth instalment, renewed to include new media like short film alongside live theatre.
Stay tuned for news about special events and other features of our 75th Season celebrations beyond our regular productions.

Penelope is much more than the patient paragon of wifely fidelity depicted in Homer’s The Odyssey — rather, think of her as an ancient Greek Desperate Housewife.
Now Penelope speaks to the audience from the afterlife, correcting the commonly held perceptions of her and her story. Her wronged maids beautifully tell their side of the story, through song, dance and storytelling in a stage adaptation by Margaret Atwood of her own wry, witty and wise novel. Audiences will be as enthralled as the ancient Greeks who listened to Homer’s tales by firelight.
November-December 2010
SLEEPING CINDER WHITE by Rob Card and directed by David Atos
Performances November 25, 26, 27; December 2, 3, 4; 9, 10, 11
Auditions Sept 6, 7, 8 (2010)
Sleeping Cinder White is what happens to fairytales when you have a confused narrator, a bumbling fairy godmother, and just the right amount of magic. You end up with seven evil dwarf stepsisters, and a Prince who spends all his time rescuing lost puppies and princesses in peril, and a fairy duel between the fairy godmother and the fairy godfather.
Follow the story of Cindy, who only wants a chance to sing and get a record deal, but ends up having to save everyone else from the clutches of her evil step mother the queen.
All in all, it’s everything you ever wanted in a fairytale and a few more things you never knew you wanted.

In an Age of Reason, humanity challenges the Godhood in everything, including the act of creation, paying for its pride and vanity with loathing and violence.
Creature and Creator are bound forever in a dance that asks, again and again, "What are you afraid of?" and "My God, what have I done?”
Tim Kelly's adaptation draws the audience into the intimate world of those questions and challenges us to answer for ourselves whether God loathes His creations as Victor does, or is there compassion to be found amidst our sins that redeems us all - Creator and Creation alike - in grace?
